Houston, we are ready for Launch!!!
Ship(ped) it (11/15/24)!!! What a journey it has been to ship my first product, Seasoned Culture. This book has truly been a labor of love, but more than that it has been something I leveraged every professional muscle I've built over my 24+ years of professional experience to realize. It has been amazing to continue to hone and build skills that I've only managed vs. perform over the last decade. From defining my target audience to insights to building the product to creative design to copyrighting to supply chain and choosing my tech stack to strategizing demand gen to testing and learning-- I have done it all!
I'm happy I've had time to focus on Seasoned Culture and the luxury to pause to understand, embrace new things, fail, learn, and restart. I've gained more depth in areas I may have previously had gaps, and I've built skills I blindly depended on others for. My cursory knowledge of some verticals is now robust and refined. Instead of being able to rely on hundreds of other cogs in the machine, I had to be all of them, solve all the problems, and deeply understand the complexities that I'd previously left for others to solve. My appreciation and gratitude for the machine is more robust for sure these days.
As leaders we need to pause from time to time to get into the weeds. Whether it's undercover in big businesses pulling back the curtains or taking a stint in entrepreneurship, we as senior executives need to dive deeper into the process to truly understand, empathize, and appreciate the depths of what it takes to bring big ideas to market. Leaders need to appreciate and understand the cost of our asks and weigh the benefits to determine if it is a required delighter.
This season of being a founder has made me a better leader, product maker, and strategist and has provided me with a much-needed release of something that I've wanted to do for ages. Seasoned Culture is the start of a collection of ventures I want to pursue. It is a love letter to my family, my culture, and the cultures of the communities I’ve been fortunate to experience. You see culture is our ethos or the core of who we are. It is the product of what our environment and surroundings have shaped us to be. It is the essence of us. The seasoning are all the things we find, absorb, and curate in the world that enhances and gives us perspective, additional dimension, depth, and aesthetic. This book is called Seasoned Culture because it allows my heart and soul to speak and share who I’ve been, who I am, and who I am becoming.
